My love for photography
For over half my life I have had a camera at my side. For me, photography is about the treasuring the moment; the small gestures, the candid smiles, those happy tears. What has always captivated me about photography is capturing the special moments, one that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Recording them before they are gone forever.
Over the years my subjects have varied. From Weddings, maternity/pregnancy, birth, newborns through to families I’ve photographed it all. But no matter who I photograph, it always comes back to the image. Photographing gives me the opportunity to show people what really happened from an unbiased point of view; providing them with a raw authentic image.
Why would anyone want their birth photographed?
Before I gave birth I thought the same. I had organised a friend to come to my birth as it was important for us to have him there as part of our circle. After speaking with him I pondered if it might be possible for him to take some photos. And while I knew I would be at my most vulnerable in doing so, it was the BEST decision I ever made. Birth can be an overwhelming time and those first moments of holding your baby will never be forgotten captured in a photograph.
Some people say but I don’t want you to see me naked, or to take over my space. This is something we can discuss and work through as those first few moments are usually beyond all other thoughts.
